Gaza vigils on the Square – Second Saturdays through November
8:00 am – noon
5/10/25, 6/14/25, 7/12/25, 8/9/25, 9/13/25, 10/11/25 and 11/8/25
We will continue to protest Israel’s genocidal war on Gaza by placing 200 pairs of shoes on the Capitol Square Farmer’s Market Mall the second Saturday of every month until the war ends.
The shoes are a symbol of the lives lost in this war – over 51,000 as of late April 2025. We will distribute fliers that list the current casualties in Gaza and the West Bank and call for a permanent ceasefire, renewal of humanitarian aid to Palestine and an end to US military aid to Israel. Every several months, we plan to hold a one hour interfaith vigil of singing and prayer at the Mall.
We need volunteers:
- to set out the 200 pairs of shoes on the mall at the corner of King St. and East Main St. (across from the Walgreens) from 8 am to 9 am.
- to hand out literature and talk with those who stop by from 9 am to 12 noon.
- to dismantle the exhibit from 12 noon-12:30 pm
Cosponsors: the Friends Meeting of Madison, the Interfaith Peace Working Group, Jewish Voice for Peace, Madison for a World Beyond War, Mennonite Action, Orchard Ridge United Church of Christ and Palestine Partners.
Please contact Jane Kavaloski, Paula Rogge or Mark Bauman of Mennonite Action to volunteer.
