Social Justice

Looking for how you can make a difference? You don’t have to be a Quaker to take part.

Madison Friends Meeting Community
Our Peace, Social and Earth Concerns Committee provides a nexus for people working in various areas including anti-racism, climate and peace. We sponsor regular forums, special events and opportunities for action and engagement with the community. You can contact us at psecmmm@madisonfriends.org.

As a Meeting we craft public statements (called minutes) on current issues and distribute them widely. Resources: Here you’ll find links to these statements and to other resources and helpful information that we’ve compiled.

The Meeting supports many Quaker and other organizations both materially and with our direct involvement: https://madisonfriends.org/organizations-we-support/

FCNL: Friends Committee on National Legislation
FCNL makes it easy for you to learn about issues and contact your representatives in the U.S. Congress. At fcnl.org/act you’ll be able to enter your address and immediately be able to edit pre-written letters on a number of issues that will be sent to your legislators.

AFSC: American Friends Service Committee AFSC works globally to pursue systemic change, focusing on just and sustainable peace, just economies, and just responses to migration. Make your voice heard or join a campaign on various issues at afsc.org/take-action.

Quakers have historically been involved in social and political movements in support of oppressed and disadvantaged people, including the abolition of slavery and reform of prison conditions. We work to make amends when we learn that we have caused harm.

Striving to express our inward faith in outward action leads us to value:
Care for the earth • Integrity • Peace • Equality • Simplicity • Community.
