Meet Becky Malke, our Children and Youth Coordinator!
Rebecca grew up in northeastern Wisconsin and later attended college at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire where she earned a BA in comparative studies in world religion with a secondary focus on journalism. After graduation, she went to India to teach English and journalism to students at Don Bosco High School. She also taught art and physical education to former child laborers at a human rights organization called People’s Action for Rural Awakening (PARA). While in India, Rebecca met Verra Raju Eliganti, who was a teacher and caretaker at PARA. They later married and now have two teenage boys – Indy and Kiran.
Rebecca spent 8 years as the director of religious education for Prairie Unitarian Universalist Society in Madison and 10 years as director of faith development for Memorial United Church of Christ in Fitchburg. She’s a trained Our Whole Lives facilitator for grades K-12 and currently studying to become a priestess for Circle Sanctuary, a Nature Spirituality church outside of Madison.
You can reach Becky at FDSprogram@madisonfriends.org or talk to her on Sunday mornings.
