EDUCATION
- Scott Fulton and Becky Malke will be leading a discussion group on the book Becoming Kin by Patty Krawec. This is a guidebook of sorts, targeted at those of us who do not identify as Native American. It explores the painful history of our relationship with the Indigenous people of the US and Canada, focusing on stories from the experiences of the author and her family which make the effects of this history come to life. It also explores how we can begin work to move our relationship with both Native Americans and the world around us to one of a healthy “kinship”. A more detailed review of the book can be found here – Books by and about Native Americans – Madison Friends Meeting. The discussion group will be held on Zoom on Thursday evenings Feb. 20, 27 & Mar. 6 from 7:00 to 8:30 pm. If you would like to participate, please send an email to Scott at scottpfulton@gmail.com
- WISDOM is hosting a Rights of Nature Series January 29 to February 26th (every Wednesday) 6:30-8:30pm via Zoom. Rights of Nature is an approach to environmental justice that WISDOM has embraced. It has a spiritual dimension, heavily influenced by Native American spirituality and the understanding that all of life is interrelated and has inherent worth. It also has a legal dimension, in which we believe the natural world should have the right to be protected from harm and have the right to have wrongs remedied. Register here.
