EDUCATION
- Scott Fulton continues his series of book reviews of books by Native American authors. The Peacekeeper by Sault St. Marie Chippewa Tribe member Brooke Blanchard: this book is a mystery wrapped in a work of speculative fiction set in a world of present day North American which was never colonized by Europeans. What makes it of significance to Friends is that it explores in some depth how a system based on restorative justice might actually work with a complex and highly tragic case. The review may be found at https://madisonfriends.org/books-by-and-about-native-americans/.
- The Native Land Information System has storymaps about history and resilience. Native Land Information System (NLIS) was developed by the Native Lands Advocacy Project, a project of Village Earth, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Fort Collins, Colorado, with funding from the Indian Land Tenure Foundation. The NLIS serves as a repository of learning resources, information, and data to help defend and protect Native lands for the benefit of Native peoples. The NLIS also aims to challenge the status quo of historical data colonialism in the United States. Read the storymaps here, including the most recent The Buffalo’s Resilience in the Face of Settler Colonialism https://nativeland.info/storymaps/
